Training and Traning

An very important aspect of centre life is traIning.  By undertaking lots of site training it ensures as a centre we are current, that staff share good practice, its keep us sharp, allows us to improve what we offer. It also allows us to demonstrate , when we get inspected for our AALA licence we take safety and responsibility serious.

This time we visited an abseil site and looked at how we rig, what techniques we deploy when teaching abseiling and how to solve common problems ( always best to avoid them in the first place ) It also gave the centre a chance to train some of our staff who had not used this site.

A mountain day in North Wales....

It was the mountain day for the groups staying at Blue Peris today and the day was crystal clear, with brilliant blue skies and very little wind. A perfect mountain day! Groups reached their assigned peaks and their reward were these amazing views...

Both of our groups have really pushed themselves this week. We would like to say well done to them all!

Winter is coming!

Fantastic day today! The activities the school groups took part in today facilitated a focus into developing core aims i.e. independence, personal organisation and stepping out of our comfort zones. A very successful and important day delivered by our Blue Peris staff!

In additon, both groups having amazing resilience to the very low temperatures recieved today. One group taking on the mighty gourge Afon Ddu. wading through water, scrambling on rocks and even taking on the challenging jump into the water pool at the end. The second group exploring Wrysgan slate mine. every individual facing a personal challenge down there, whether that's the dark, heights or the unknown. However, they all came out with big smiles and positive comments. One person even said that they have a new perspective on life and thinks what they have achieved has been life changing.

Family fun

A very enthusiastic and friendly family wanting a rock climbing adventure day- they definitely came to the right place! Our staff delivered rock climbing at different North Wales crags then finishing with a long abseil.
During the morning we visited the pinnicles crag by joe brown which overlooked a great view of snowdon- which made for a great spot for lunch also! In the afternoon we visited Tryfan bach to climb a route roughly 45m. Then lastly we set up an abseil on the crag which everyone loved. 
Very successful day, with the family giving great feedback when saying goodbye. in addition, to following up with a positive email to say thanks.

A Wet Day Canoeing

Anther great day out with groups both out canoeing and kayaking, making the msot of the day even with the wet weather.

DofE Residential

Great day in the gorge with a Gold residential for the Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Lack of Sleep

Thankfully we do not have to worry about bears in North Wales. These signs are located at the camp sites in the Yosemite Valley , Cailfornia. Not ideal for getting a goods night sleep.

Escape the Sun

The mine adventure was a classic trip today. With discussions about how mines were worked, how slate was formed, why slate was so important, the Victorian times  combined with some challenging terrain the group had the perfect outdoor education day.

Open and Happy

Last weekend, we re-opened after Storm Emma decided to steal part of our roof in March.  We are so pleased to be back up and running at the Blue Peris site. It seems so are our first customers.

More Summer ML Training

3rd week, 3rd ML summer training course and the sun still keeps shinning. Off the beaten track today putting navigation skills to the test.

ML ML ML- Last week we ran a full Summer Mountain Leader Training course in the glorious sun. This week another full MLT course has the sun, I wonder what next weeks MLT course will bring. Sun ?

The sun does really shine in North Wales

It is a busy time at the centre and we are all really loving this weather. Over the weekend we had a secondary school using White Peris and undergoing their rock climbing syllabus. 

Sunday evening a group of HR apprentices started their course and our Summer Mountain Leader starts today. Phew !!

A look back over the last 3 days of our outdoor education and field study course.

The days the students collected their data for the river and town study I am afraid to say the weather was not kind to them.  However they had sun for the adventure / outdoor education part of their stay.

Outdoor Education and Field Studies is on the menu this week. Day 1 and the groups certainly enjoyed the glorious weather. Having witnessed first hand glaciation is makes the learning much more easy.

Yes we told you there were spiders

Who wishes to go caving, its very dark, narrow, there are spiders, it is wet and you will undertake lots of abseils. 4 hands shot up very quickly and there we had our group. 4 year 9 girls and no lads in sight.

What a blast we all had in Fish Caves Sol and Mark the Blue Peris instructors, a teacher and the 4 year 9 pupils. Mr C an ex teacher of the school you would have loved it !

Winter Education

When it comes to learning outside the classroom, Blue Peris can carry this out with style.  There are limited organisations within the UK that can offer this type of experience for school pupils.

Beside the sea side

Given recent weather it was nice to escape to the coast last week for a day. This visit was to train staff to run tyrolean traverse on our sea level adventure day. One of our most popular activities.
