How cold?

We've been busy working on a GCSE climbing course this week ( Part of PE), and have been pushing the students hard. They have a lot to remember: belaying, knots, climbing calls moves  etc., so we thought we'd give them a break today and taking them somewhere nice!  So, we had a good think, and thought were better to go on a freezing cold day in North Wales.... THE GORGE!!
When we arrived in the car park, even the leaves were frozen ( as well as the puddles!). There were looks of apprehension on their faces as they walked towards the entrance, but these soon turned to smiles! We managed to keep them all dry ( mostly), but they decided to change that at the end.

The final climb out.

Steep times
We had a brilliant day , as you can see from the photos.

Mid week madness!

Today was a fantastic day for us here at Blue Peris. Our current group is really coming into their own! Today saw all the groups overcome a multitude of challenges (including some rain, and hail), and they even come out the other side with massive smiles on their faces. Two groups went abseiling and raft building, both teams built fantastic rafts, and everybody overcome their fears and managed to get down a tricky abseil!

Showing us how its done.

Staying a float on the raft.

Another group decided to trade in the bad weather, and go under ground, enjoying the darkness in Rhibach

 smiles in the dark

Our final group went for a fantastic day gorge walking in the Afon Ddu; managing to battle of the elements and complete all the challenges set for them.

Wild Wednesday

Fabulous day for our groups today.

First group ran round the level 2 Wrysgan mine trip in record time. Numerous difficulties were overcome, in the darkness, some of which clinging onto ropes for dear life (or so they thought).

Our second and third groups went raft building and abseiling.
One of the groups even manages to stay dry on their rafts!
Great team work, great success.

Our final group went scrambling up the slippery gorge, filling their trousers up with water, squeezing through tight gaps and trying to stay dry, until the end at least.

Tyrolean on me

A new week here at Blue Peris, and another brilliant group staying with us. This group of year 9s really are up for a challenge, and we are looking forward to some brilliant adventures through out the week. Today we saw two groups looking at home on a sea level traverse trip at cable bay. Two other groups went on separate mountain walks, and with some determination made it to the top of Y Garn, and
Elidir Fawr.

Little people achieving big things

Again another beautiful day in North Wales, with Blue Peris seeing some of its little adventurers achieving spectacular things. We have seen all of our groups overcoming challenges with two groups braving the cold of the gorge, two groups exploring the deep dark mines, and two groups over coming their fear of heights whilst climbing. We certainly are excited for another fantastic day tomorrow!

From littrle Acorns come great adventures!

From Gorge walking to orienteering with a little bit of raft building, today groups had an amazing time here in North Wales. 6 groups of children leaving here with smiles on there faces and coming back with even bigger smiles, a few cold ones though from the Gorge but they all had a great time. We had 2 groups go on a underground adventure exploring some mines and are all back and ready for some food! Looking forward to tomorrow is all everyone is saying here at Blue Peris. What a great day :)

Little Legs!

We've had an amazing time out with the year 5's today, pushing their legs to the limit!
We managed to get down some mines ( which suityed them well due to their small stature!), up some gorges and up some climbs.
Makes you relaise just how big some of these things appear to the younger groups we have at the centre.

But what they lacked in height, they made up for in determination and laughter!

Learning useful map and life skills.

Triumphant team mine!

The showers are a bit basic at Blue Peris

But the bath is second to none!

Mining fun!

Great Adventures!

We've been so busy over the past few days, we even forgot to Blog!
Right, so here goes...
We been very busy with a brilliant group since Sunday evening, when they arrived pretty late, but raring to go!
Tuesday, headed out the crags and lakes. We looked at trusting each other on the climbs, and then pushed each other in on the Sit On Top Kayaks.

You can feel the concentration.

Wednesday has seen go to the mine ( Rhiwbach), near Betws-y-Coed. Exploring the old slate workings, learning to some tall tales and even crossing an underground lake in an old raft!
Its a waterfall!

Drilling for gold?

The other group headed to the coast,. where we encountered some pretty big waves ( they helped us jump in better) and explored the coastline on the amazing Isle of Anglesey. Oh, they sang a lot too!

Helping each other at the Range!

Coasteering- Hooray!

Two groups in the gorge

With the temperatures still mild, and 2 fresh groups ready to get stuck in, we drove to the Afon Ddu Gorge. The group had a blast scrambling up, crawling through and sliding down the gorge.
The emphasis for this week is on building self-confidence, push yourself out of your comfort zone and learning how to work and live with others.
We made a good start with that in the gorge, as some found challenging waterfalls to climb up, and we had our first feel of a bit of rock climbing, in the way of a slippery rocky scramble with the security of a rope. Hopefully tomorrow it will be dry so we can continue with challenging our fear of heights, climbing up the rock face.
After dinner the groups did the nightline, following an obstacle course with blindfolds on, needing communication amongst the group to stay together and find out what is coming up.
After that the group had a chance to fit some climbing shoes ready for tomorrow, and get a feel for them in our own little climbing room.
A good start of the week!

Might as well have some fun whilst were here

Crawling out of the 'washing machine'

Do we really have to climb that? No, there's a way around

Gorgeous adventure

First day adventures for our groups today.
Two of which went exploring out local gorge, climbing up falls, sliding down the water slides and jumping in the big lake at the top.
Our final group went out to explore Cwm Idwal and check out the mountains of North Wales. After that, teamwork took over as they assembled their raft, which successfully passed all the test.
